Food, Herbs and Anxiety February 18 2013

The saying "You are what you eat" is really so true.  When we look at people or children we know that eat junk food all day long we see people who are struggling with not only weight issues and bad skin but so many of these people are anxious, stressed out and have what is commonly called ADD/ADHD.

Now I'm not saying that these anxiety issues and disorders are only due to what you eat, but much of what I see has a connection.  By making a change in your food choices you will see big shifts in your stress level.

What is your favorite choice for breakfast?  Are you eating dessert for breakfast - sugar, fat and carbs, does this sound familiar?  Bagel and cream cheese?  Cereal?  or a cinnamon roll?  OR do you choose to have an organic veggie omelet, green smoothie with or without protein powder or a bowl of steel cut oats with sunflower seeds and almonds added to it?

An herbal tea that I love and one that I find helps many of my clients balance their stress levels is Holy Basil (aka Tulsi).  Some of the benefits of holy basil include stress relief, reduced anxiety and depression, it seems to allow a person to adapt to change and challenges easier as  well as helping build the immune and cardiovascular system.

Instead of grabbing for an easy to pop pill for your anxiety, let's talk about ways of making the stress in your life seem like a breeze.  We will always have stress, its the way that we choose to roll with it that will make all the difference in the world to our health. Join me next Saturday as we discuss so many more ways to nourish your body, mind and spirit with nutritious foods and herbs.   I look forward to sharing this information with you.
